Produktbeschreibung

"The final Japanese attack along the Driniumor occurred on August 4th. By this time General Adachi had learned of Ted Force and further that those Americans were coming south behind him. He had to leave now or face complete annihilation of the remainder of the 18th Army. He knew he could never attack the Aitape airfields, despinte the heroic exertions of his soldiers. Supplies were exhausted so that even if the enemy were not on his rear, he could not sustain another major attack. General Adachi ordered the remnants of his 41st Infantry Division to keep the Americans busy along the Driniumor while he and the rest of the survivors of the 18th Army withdrew into the jungle. Some 200 Japanese obediently attacked the 1st Squadron, 112th Cavalry at dawn on August 4th. Attacking with a fatalism borne of hunger, disease and failure, the Japanese were massacred. Before lunch on August 4th 185 Japanese lay dead in front of the calvarymen's lines. A cavalryman bringing up supplies remarked that the deap Japanese soldiers lay like logs in the river.
