In Mission: RED PLANET, you control one of these big corporations. You try to recruit the best scientists and astronauts, and launch rockets both to explore the planet and to take control of the most promising places before anyone else arrives. Spies and armed forces are also required since this unexplored world is full of secrets and dangers and, many thousands of kilometers away from the nearest journalists, socialists and other such troublemakers, competition is no-holds-barred.
Mission: RED PLANET is a majority control game, a character selection game, and an exploration game, with a balanced mix of bluffing and strategy. In order to charter shuttles to Mars, and take control of the regions where the most interesting minerals will be found, you'll have to make the best use of your nine characters' powers. The scientist can make mysterious discoveries, the saboteur can blow a rocket up before it leaves the launch pad, the pilot can change a shuttle's destination, and so on.
- The Recruiter is hiring new space adventurers by allowing the recycling
of the characters you already play,
- The Explorer allow you to move up to 3 of your astronaut on Mars,
- The Scientist can make mysterious discoveries,
- The Secret Agent can force the launch of a rocket,
- The Saboteur can blow a rocket up before it leaves the launch pad,
- The Femme Fatale can replace an enemy astronaut with one of yours anywhere
you already have at least one,
- The Travel Agent allow you to place 3 astronauts in a rocket,
- The Soldier can kill an enemy astronaut on Mars,
- The Pilot can change a shuttle's destination.
Mission: RED PLANET is a game designed by Bruno Faidutti and Bruno Cathala, illustrations by Christophe
From Bruno Faidutti's website:
This one, designed with Bruno Cathala, started with the theme. We wanted to make a game about colonizing Mars, with shuttles leaving the blue planet towards the red one. The theme is strong, and well caught in the steampunk graphic style decided by Asmodée. In Red Planet Mission, each player plays a colonial power which sends astronauts, in space shuttles, to occupy the most promising zones on the planet. For scholars, the systems merge a majority game, à la El Grande or San Marco, with a character/action card system, somewhere between Citadels and Adel Verpflichtet. Nothing really new here, but there was much work on it and we're really proud of the result.
